Abstract [en]

Different methods may be used for preparation of specimens of stabilised soils to be tested in the laboratory. The method used will affect the results of the various tests to different extent depending on type of soil and binder combination. To study the influence of different moulding procedures on the results of routine strength testing of stabilised soil specimens, a series of laboratory tests have been performed at the Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI). The tests have been performed as part of a collaborative program within the project "International collaborative study on Deep Mixing" coordinated by partners in Japan. Three soils of different water contents were stabilised with lime-cement and specimens were prepared using three different moulding techniques. The results of the study showed that the consistency of the material during moulding may influence the scatter and magnitude of the results to significant extent depending on the moulding procedure used. The findings were in agreement with other results within the collaborative study.
