Abstract [sv]

I början av 1996 uppfördes en instrumenterad provbank på kalk/cementpelarförstärkt gyttja och sulfidjord i Norraladalen. Provbanken låg i den projekterade linjen för den kombinerade väg- och järnvägsbank som skulle korsa Norraladalen inom projekt ”Hälsingekusten”. Erfarenheterna från tidigare kalk/cementstabilisering av gyttja och sulfidjord var mycket begränsade, och syftet med provbanken var att kontrollera att en djupstabilisering av denna typ av jord kunde utföras med erforderlig förstärkningsgrad för att kunna bära den relativt höga banken vid denna passage.

Provbanken föregicks av provningar på laboratorieblandade prover och av provpelare som installerats inom ett antal delområden längs bankens sträckning och i ett alternativt läge för denna. I samband med förstärkningsarbetena för provbanken utfördes dessutom provinstallationer av pelare med ett alternativt blandningsverktyg och med varierande installationsmetodik. Vid provningen i fält testades ett antal nya provningsmetoder och pelare schaktades fram till ett begränsat djup under markytan och inspekterades. Delar av dessa framschaktade pelare togs dessutom in till laboratoriet och provades där.

Abstract [en]

In early 1996, an instrumented test embankment was built on very soft organic soil and sulphide clay reinforced with lime/cement columns. The test embankment was constructed in the Norrala Valley, at a location where a planned combined railway and road embankment was to cross the valley. This embankment constituted part of the ”Hälsingekusten” project involving the construction of both a new highway and a new railway along part of the Gulf of Bothnia.

Previous experience of deep stabilisation of organic soil and sulphide clay was very limited. The purpose of the test embankment was therefore to determine whether a sufficient reinforcement of these types of soil could be achieved to safely carry the relatively high embankment across the valley.

Construction of the test embankment was preceded by tests on samples of soil and binders mixed in the laboratory. Series of test columns were also installed and tested in various test areas along the planned location of the embankment across the valley and also in an alternative location. In addition, comparative tests were made with a new mixing tool and varying installation techniques in connection with the installation of the reinforcing columns below the test embankment. In the field testing program, a number of new test methods for lime/cement columns were tried and columns were dug out and inspected to a limited depth below the ground surface. Parts of these excavated columns were brought to the laboratory for further tests.
